The Shepherd’s Song

I heard a story today about a man who was standing near a water hole when several different shepherds walked up with their sheep. The sheep all crowded around the water and took turns drinking.  The man thought to himself, “there is no way these shepherds are going to be able to untangle this group of sheep. There are so many and they are so mixed up.”  He looked over in the corner where the shepherds stood talking, and after the sheep were done drinking the shepherds started off in different directions. As each shepherd walked away he started singing a song.

Now, the man watched these sheep [that were once mixed together] follow their own master. Although each shepherd was singing a different song, the sheep followed their own shepherd. Because they knew his voice.

Lord, help me to trust that you speak to me.  And teach me your song so I know it well.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.  I and the Father are one.”
